Welcome to The Woodlands Photography Club. We are a group of people who love photography.

From amateur to professional - film to digital - and beyond.

We come together to learn and share from each other and to have FUN!

President's Note

It's hard to fathom how quickly the months have passed since I took over the position of club President. Working for you has been a great learning experience and I could not have asked for a better group of colleagues on the Board. At our next meeting, we will need volunteers to take over the roles of: President, Workshops, Webmaster and Field Trips. Please consider donating your time in order to keep our organization running.

Best wishes for a happy holiday season,
Karen Geser
Club President

2011 Fall Contest Results

The categories for the fall photo contest were as follows:

  1. Black & White: Architecture
  2. People: At work or play
  3. Nature: Botanical
  4. Technique: HDR
  5. Wild Card: Photos from 2011 workshops and field trips
  6. New Members: Sunrise or sunset (for members who joined in 2010 and 2011 only)
  7. Open

The entries were high quality as usual and selecting the winning images was not an easy task.

Many thanks to Lana Kelly and Todd Closson for taking time to judge our entries!

Thanks to all the members who chose to share their work in the contest. Each photograph is a statement by the artist - and more importantly - a statement about the artist.

January Meeting:

Dianna Montoya, owner of Karelle Photography, gave a presentation describing her process for taking portraits by finding available natural light and utilizing long lenses to capture her subjects and eliminate distracting backgrounds often found in homes.

December Meeting:

We'll bring the sandwiches, you bring the sides (or a dessert)! This month is our annual holiday social event. If you would like to present some of your photographs from 2011, bring no more than 20 photos on a USB thumbdrive. Once we know how many people we have presenting, we'll give you a time limit. We'll also have the voting for the photo to grace the club's holiday card sent to the presenters from this year. Join us for lots of food, fun, and photo-talk!

Time and location:
December 12th, 6:30-8:00 pm
South Montgomery County Community Center
2235 Lake Robbins Drive

November Meeting:

Joe Baraban gave a presentation titled "Life Before Photoshop".  Even in todays digital world, it was evident that some planning up front and getting it right "in the camera" creates better images and certainly takes less time trying to fix the photo later.

October Meeting:

The annual fall photo contest was held.   Over 100 entries were submitted in 7 various categories.  Contest results and a few of the winning photos are shown here on the home page.

September Meeting:

Will Hardin from the Houston Camera Exchange gave us a GREAT question and answer session! Having done work for commercial clients as well, he was extremely knowledgeable on most any brand of camera or lens.

August Meeting:

Dan Zientek gave an in-depth view into the Lightroom development module.

July Meeting:

Pam Moore discussed stock photography and showed us many images that she had submitted herself and that were subsequently used around the world in various publications.

June Meeting:

Deb Evans of Photographic Vision gave us something to think about she spoke on the differences between a snapshot and a photograph. Turns out there are actually quite a few!

May Meeting:

Our May meeting provided a great opportunity to have individual photos critiqued by nationally known photographer Kathy Adams Clark.

April Meeting:

Our April meeting featured two speakers. Steve Goodrich spoke on various aspects of printing photographs while Peter Lamprose educated us on getting them framed.

March Meeting:

Speaker - John Lawson

John has had a life-long passion for people photography. He started with a Brownie box camera, then an Argus C3, and at age 12, his dad gave him his first professional camera, a Rolleiflex, which he still has. A ‘million’ images later, someone paid him for some work, and, as they say, the rest is history. The passion continues to this day to capture those memorable images that commemorate the special people and moments in life. He converted from film to digital seven or eight years ago and enjoys the freedom and opportunities that digital photography offers today’s photographers. John operates Memorable Images, a boutique photography service for weddings, portraits, events and panoramic images.

February Meeting:

At the February meeting there was a round table discussions about your camera settings, the proper way to clean your camera, lighting, etc.  No question was too elementary.

January Meeting:

Last month we heard from Brad Wright at photorentalsource.com. He presented lots of good information on various models and aspects of camera lenses and brought along several to look at.

December Meeting:

Our annual Christmas Party!

The winner of the December "Holiday Lights" mini-contest was Chris Fagelman with her image shown below.
