Hi,

This is a quick little announcement about the next club meeting and a few

other important events.

Meeting Night, February 11, 2002   ----   Special Presentation

Joel Barr, whom some of you may know, is coming to do a presentation and

demonstration of table-top photography.

Joel Barr is a Professor of Photography at North Harris College in

Houston, Texas. He has been a member of the faculty there since 1980.

Mr. Barr holds Masters degrees in Technology and Photography. The

"hands-on" presentation that Joel has planned for the Woodlands

Photography Club will be on formal 3D Lighting, in which a basic light

setup will be explained in detail and demonstrated with some ceramic

pieces for achieving the proper 3D objects pictures.. Members are invited

to bring their cameras, tripods, etc., and utilize Mr. Barr's lighting

and background equipment.

Special events

On Saturday, the 9th of February, the Houston Museum of Natural Science

will be opening a landscape photography exhibition entitled "In Response

To Place".   This should prove to be an interesting show.  For more

information go to the museum at http://www.hmns.org/ and follow the link

to the exhibition.

Saturday, February 23, we will be meeting at Moody Gardens in Galveston

for fun and a photo shoot.  This is some data that Cecilia was able to

dig up:

I checked on Moody Gardens. They will allow us to use our tripods. Moody

Gardens opens at 10 am. If we arrive a little before, there will not be

people around. After 11 AM usually starts to be crowded. We can go into

the Rain Forest and/or to the aquarium. The fees are $12 for the Aquarium

and 7.95 for the Rain Forest. There is a special fee for groups but we

have to be minimum 20 people. Then the Aquarium fee should be $9.25 per

person and the Rain Forest $6.50. Not bad, but I think we will not be

able to gather 20 people. (?) If we want the special group fee we have to

contact Bob in Moody Gardens the day before.

It sounds good to me.  I think we should plan to arrive at around 9:45,

to be ready when the doors open.  For more info on Moody Gardens, and how

to get there, check out: http://www.moodygardens.com

The Spring Competition

We are still working on the details, but I can tell you this: The date to

turn in photos will be May 4th.  The photos will be on display in the

conference room of the library until the 25.  Pick-up day will be the

25th. Our judge will be the well renowned Jean Caslin from the Houston

Center for Photography.  Jean is an Executive Director of the HCF and was

recommended to us by Peter Brown.  Her plan is to review the photos on

May 11th, then do her final selection on Monday May 13th.  She will then

be present at our meeting to discuss the photographs, teach us a little

about how to critique photos, and be available to answer question about

photography and the Houston Center for Photography.

Stay tuned for more details ---

Thanks, and happy shooting,

George Carlson, President
