APRIL ACTIVITY

EARTH DAY BOOTH
Saturday, April 5

Our club again set up a booth at this festival to celebrate Earth Day, held this year in the Sterling Ridge shopping center lot. We had numerous signups for our mailing list, several new members, and quite a few who want to come investigate our meetings and club. So we have to be on good behavior at the next meeting and show all these new folks we're glad they're checking us out! SPECIAL THANKS go to Cecilia Garcia, John Masters, Brenda Driscoll, Ron Bautsch, and Ken Means for making this event happen for our club.

MONTHLY MEETING & PRESENTATION
Monday, April 14 -- 6:30 to 8:45 P.M.

Presentation by Kelly Catchings, former Woodlands High School grad, who has photographed many Hollywood stars. She will show us how to make average folks look like a star with special photo techniques. Mini-contest theme for this meeting is WILDFLOWERS. Come see the presentation and help us greet visitors and new members.

FIELD TRIP TO MERCER ARBORETUM
Saturday, April 19 -- Meet there at 8:30 A.M.

Join fellow members in a well-timed shoot to catch spring flowers at the height of their blooms. Many other subjects beckon us: bamboo forest, lily ponds, exotic plants, something for everyone. Email Ken Means (kdm@argohouston.net) if you want to hitch a ride or ask questions about this field trip.

The Arboretum opens at 8 A.M. Most of us will be there by 8:30, and we'll shoot for a few hours until we get gorgeous photos! Then we'll meet somewhere for lunch and brag about our film or digital accomplishments, and of course, "the one that got away." (You can't have more fun than this...)

FOTOFEST CONTEST DEADLINE
Late April

The deadline to enter this contest is late April, even though the contest winners will be announced in 2004. If you're interested, check here: http://www.fotofest.org.

SPRING PHOTO COMPETITION
Entries due April 26, 10-11:30 A.M.

Bring your entries, entry fees, and proper entry labels to the Library at 10 A.M. please, so we can get all entries logged in and put up for display. They will be there for a month, until May 24. Judging will be May 12 (see next item). Remember, some really valuable prizes from various photo sponsors await the numerous winners in this competition. NOTE: All pictures entered in the contest must be matted or framed, and they must have wires for hanging (no sawtooth hangers, please.) Our display requires the wires.

MONTHLY MEETING & AWARDS PRESENTATION
Monday, May 12 -- 6:30 to 8:45 P.M.

Peter Brown, Rice University instructor who has judged our competition before, will announce the winners of our Spring Photo Show & Competition and explain his reasoning for his choices.

FIELD TRIP
Possibly Saturday, May 17

We're working on a fun local-area trip for the club for May. Stay tuned for the details.

PICK UP COMPETITION PICTURES
Saturday, May 24 —10 to 11:30 A.M.

Come to the library to pick up your show entries. Please try to be there early so our volunteer crew can go home on time.

JUNE — DECEMBER

SUMMER PRINT SALE AT HCP
Saturday, June 6 -- 9 A.M. to 5 P.M.

Great opportunity to display and maybe sell some of your images, while meeting other photographers in the Houston area at the Houston Center for Photography annual event.

JUNE MONTHLY MEETING & PRESENTATION
Monday, June 9 -- 6:30 to 8:45 P.M.

A special presentation by Jim McCary from the Humble Camera Club. He will share his special slides from a trip to Mt. Kilamanjaro and bring some digital cameras for a discussion on going digital.

FIELD TRIP: STATE PARK FLORA & FAUNA
Tentative: Saturday, June 15

The Texas Land Conservancy invited our club to go with them to a public preserve just south of The Woodlands while they do their annual count of butterflies. G reat opportunity for us...stay tuned.

JULY AND ONWARD

ABOUT OUR CLUB
	The Woodlands Photography Club is an organization formed to support area photographers of all ages, skill levels, and interests to advance in their ability to create truly satisfying images. In the process, we all become great friends, enjoy field trips and outings together, and learn from each other. MEETINGS. We meet every month on the second Monday from 6:30 to 9 P.M. at the Libray just west of The Woodlands Pavillion (The Montgomery County South Branch Library at 2101 Lake Robbins Dr.) in the meeting room immediately to the left as you enter the front doors. Visitors and the curious are always most welcome! MEMBERSHIP. Anyone interested in photography, no matter what your age or level of experience (professional, amateur, or wannabe), is most welcome to join our club. Membership is a measly $15/year – that's a mere $1.25/month, less than a cup of coffee! Membership is half-price for young people up to age 18. NEWSLETTER. Our monthly email newsletter goes out around the first of each month (you're reading the current issue). We also keep this and back issues online at the club website. MEMBER GALLERIES.
