May 8-11
Three days of learning, shooting
a wide variety of special locations with models and mentors, a big
river cruise, and lots more. Contact Michelle Cast at 212-767-6086
or email mcast@hfmus.com.
MONTHLY MEETING & AWARDS PRESENTATION Monday,
May 12 -- 6:30 to 8:45 P.M.
Peter Brown, Rice University instructor who has judged
our competition before, will announce the winners of our
Spring Photo Show & Competition and explain his
reasoning for his choices. Wonderful opportunity to compare your own
analysis with that of a pro and learn how to make your future show
entries winners.
FIELD TRIP — PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT
Pasadena Strawberry Festival
Saturday, May 17
Our members had so much fun at last year's scavenger hunt in Old Town,
Spring, that we decided to make it an annual affair. We pass
out assignments, and you go find and shoot them -- with great skill
and artistry, of course! You will get the specific directions
via email soon -- tentatively at the Pasadena Strawberry Festival.
We can caravan and make it more fun.
PICK UP COMPETITION PICTURES
Saturday, May 24 —10
to 11:30 A.M.
Come to the library to pick up your show entries. Please be
there early so our volunteer crew can go home on time. Pictures
not picked up by 11:30 may be donated to charity....

HOT SUMMER PRINT SALE AT HCP
Saturday, June 7 -- 9 A.M. to
5 P.M.
Great opportunity to display and maybe sell some of your
images, while meeting other photographers in the Houston area at
the Houston Center for Photography annual event. This
is a fun day of mixing, making friends, learning what people like
so your photos will sell better in the future, and letting people
citywide know about our club.
MONTHLY MEETING & PRESENTATION
Monday, June 9 -- 6:30
to 8:45 P.M.
A special presentation by Jim McCary from the Humble
Camera Club. He will share his special slides from a trip to Mt.
Kilamanjaro and bring some digital cameras
for a discussion on going digital — a topic to prepare us
for our June Field Trip (see below).
FIELD TRIP: TRY OUT DIGITAL
PHOTOGRAPHY
Saturday, June
14
We're gathering up a few professional digital cameras
for members to use on this field trip -- a terrific hands-on opportunity
to try using digital cameras and get to know the world of digital
photography. A club member who is adept at this technology will
give us a mini-workshop on tricks of the digital trade.
Location to be announced (somewhere near The Woodlands -- stay
tuned).

INSTEAD OF OUR JULY MONTHLY MEETING:
SUMMER BARBEQUE AND MEMBER SLIDE SHOW
Saturday, July 19 --
6:00 to 10:00 P.M.
Members' families are most welcome
Instead of our regular meeting at the Library, we're planning a
terrific summer evening of park fun, a barbeque
(entre/drinks catered, desserts brought by members), swimming
for the kids with a lifeguard present, and about 90 minutes
of members' favorite slides -- the cream of the crop. Those
interested in showing slides should contact a board member at the
next meeting to get on the list. We can probably accommodate about
25 members this way. Members' families and significant others are
most welcome to come enjoy the park activities, pool, food, and
slides. (Will be at a local Woodlands park facility to be announced)
AUGUST & BEYOND

• October North American Nature Photographers Association
(NANPA) meeting in McAllen
• Fall Photo Competition and Show
• November Lost Maples field trip
