Fall 2004 Portfolio Show & Competition

We will have the opportunity to submit a PORTFOLIO of our work on one topic. The purpose is to help us all learn how to present portfolios effectively to stock houses, magazine editors, professional competitions, and so on.

Your portfolio should be in the form of three to five matted and framed photos that are clearly related in some way - communicating an idea, common theme, sequence of events, or illustrating a photographic technique. Ideally your portfolio should create synergy, i.e., your choice of images and how they work together should create an overall effect that is more powerful than just viewing each one individually.

COMPETITION RULES

1. This competition is only for club members who are current on their annual dues.
     (You may pay the $20 annual dues when submitting your entry.)
2. Entry fee is $12 per person.
3. Submit one portfolio of 3 to 5 related photos as described above.
4. Pictures must be matted and framed (maximum frame size 16X20"),
     wired for hanging on a hook (a necessity).
5. Color or black-and-white photos from slides, negatives, or digital image.
6. No nude photography allowed (the display is in a public library used by children).
7. Entry forms will be available when you check in at the Library.
8. Please put your name on the back at the right lower corner to help prevent loss.
    No photographer name should appear on the front of the picture.
9. If there are more entries than the library display walls will accommodate,
    we will hold the extras aside, but they will still judged and critiqued.
10. Only portfolios brought to the library during the specified time below will qualify.
11. All entries must be picked-up at the time specified below. If you cannot pickup
     the entry yourself, please arrange for another person to do so. Entries remaining
     after the take down date become a burden for our volunteers and will be
     donated to a worthy cause at the board's discretion.

JUDGING

Judges: Hal Power (Former NY commercial photographer) and Jim Godbold (Former National Geographic director of photography) will critique our portfolio submissions. Awards will include "Best Portfolio of the Show," as well as first-, second-, and third-place portfolios. There may be other awards given as well, including the best overall individual photo and others as determined by the competition committee. Decisions of the judge will be final.

DATES AND TIMES

SUBMIT YOUR PORTFOLIO -- Saturday, October 30, 2004 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM
at the South Branch Library in The Woodlands. Late entries cannot be accepted.

ATTEND THE JUDGING -- Monday, November 8, 2004 at 7:00 PM for critique/awards presentation.

PICK UP YOUR ENTRIES -- Saturday, November 20, 2004 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM.
