At our regular meeting on May, we had a Photographic critique and awards ceremony for our Spring Photo Show & Competition (take a look at our gallery)
Paul Hester from Rice University and Katy Kleinhans from Watermark Fine Art Photographs and Books, after judging our exhibit gave us a photographic critique. Their very well addressed comments were very impressive and educational. The winners at this Photo Contest are:

Field Trip - Butterfly Center and Frog Exhibit, take a look at this gallery. We had the opportunity to enter the exhibits before the public hours to photograph at our leisure the butterflies and the frogs. It has been a lot of fun and camaraderie.

PHOTO TIPS: NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY -
STAR TRAILS
Bright stars are easy to photograph, making them good subjects for your first effects at astrophotography. Because the earth rotates, star pictures show the stars not as points of light but as trails. You can make interesting circular star trails by photographing the sky around the North Star using an exposure time of at least five minutes. Silhouettes of trees, buildings or hills along the horizon line will add an interesting base to your photos. Setting a digital camera to a moderately high ISO setting (or ISO 400 or faster film if using a 35mm camera) will help keep exposure times from being unduly long. Set it at "B" shutter speed, a tripod is a must and a cable release, very recommendable. (Extracted from Porter's Camera)

3) CANON EOS 1N RS - professional 35mm film camera. This is the rare one built with a pellicle mirror which means that there is no blackout during exposure since light travels through the mirror to the film and the mirror does not need to flip up during the exposure. This allows the camera to have an incredibly fast shooting rate of 10 frames per second when set on continuous high, great for sports and action shots. This camera is no lightweight since the body and motor drive are built as one unit. Camera body is in great shape but is missing the rubber eyecup. This camera sold new for $2700.00. 5) Canon EOS Digital Rebel 6.3 Megapixel, $1,200. This camera was bought because of a job I was taking with a newspaper. I ended up not getting it, so it has been waiting for someone to use it. It works great and comes with TWO lenses: The 18mm-35mm and Canon Zoom lens EF, 75-300mm, f4-5.6 with image stabilizer. This is a great camera. Contact Gabriel García for details.

Through June 24 - Eye on Third Ward is a twelve-year collaboration between the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Magnet School of Communication at Jack Yates High School. The photographs in this exhibition are distinctive for the number of personal connections students made with the subjects they photographed. From June 2 through August 2nd -- The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake (TAACCL) is hosting their Open Doors Series: Summer ’07 and open juried exhibition. Twice a year The Arts Alliance Center opens its doors, encouraging emerging talent in the area by offering open juried art competitions. Work submitted by area artists, in all media and of any subject matter, is juried and cash awards are given to reward superior work.
