July Activities
At our regular meeting on June, Joe Robbins, "Product & Stock Photography" - www.joerobbins.com - corporate/industrial, stock, studio product, high tech, architecture, people - He has a studio and also teaches photoshop workshops. his presentation was an approach on photography techniques and skills.

SPECIAL THANKS go to Janice & Nolan Braud and Cris Woods for their kindness bringing the sweet, salty snacks and refreshments for our July regular meeting.

Field Trips - July 4th, Woodlands, Fire Works. We had access to special press spot to take pictures from this spectacular event.

We had a successful field trip to St. Arnold Brewing Co. The visit to the micro brewery gave us different photo opportunities. Members enjoyed taking a variety of pictures, from patterns to special perspectives and creative shots. Pictured Cecilia García and Pete Poulsen photographing the bottles very close to the bottling department. The group had time to share their hobby, photography. Private Telephone Collection -- There were over 60 phones on display and everyone photographed the ones of interest to them and hopefully got some great shots. Tabletop lights were set up and we had various backgrounds to choose from.  We were able to share A LOT of photo tips and information

PHOTO TIPS: MEMORY CARD PERFORMANCE - Images have been accidentally deleted from a memory card, or a card has been corrupted and cannot display images that are on it, what if this happens to a card containing irreplaceable photos? DON’T PANIC! When all the images on a memory card are erased, they actually aren’t. Instead, the file structure is changed, but the images are still there. Stop using that card immediately. Turn off the camera, remove the card and have the image files restored. Do not re-shoot images on the card or reformat it before you attempt to restore the images. To restore them, you’ll need some image recovery software such as Image Rescue that is included with Lexar Pro-Series memory cards. Many other recovery programs can be found by searching the Web, some with free trial offers. Some photo specialty stores offer image restoring services, also. (Extracted from Porter's Camera)

The annual Canon Photography in the Parks contest is now accepting submissions through September 29th for the 2007 contest. The grand prize includes round-trip airfare and 5-day/4-night hotel accommodations for two plus entry fee to a national or state park in the Continental US, an EOS 5D with 24-105 L IS USM lens, and a PIXMA Pro9500 printer. 5) CANON EOS 1N RS - professional 35mm film camera. This is the rare one built with a pellicle mirror which means that there is no blackout during exposure since light travels through the mirror to the film and the mirror does not need to flip up during the exposure. This allows the camera to have an incredibly fast shooting rate of 10 frames per second when set on continuous high, great for sports and action shots. This camera is no lightweight since the body and motor drive are built as one unit. Camera body is in great shape but is missing the rubber eyecup. This camera sold new for $2700.00. 7) Canon EOS Digital Rebel 6.3 Megapixel, $1,200. This camera was bought because of a job I was taking with a newspaper. I ended up not getting it, so it has been waiting for someone to use it. It works great and comes with TWO lenses: The 18mm-35mm and Canon Zoom lens EF, 75-300mm, f4-5.6 with image stabilizer. This is a great camera. Contact Gabriel García for details.

Through August 2nd -- The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake (TAACCL) is hosting their Open Doors Series: Summer ’07 and open juried exhibition. Twice a year The Arts Alliance Center opens its doors, encouraging emerging talent in the area by offering open juried art competitions. Work submitted by area artists, in all media and of any subject matter, is juried and cash awards are given to reward superior work.
