Dianna Montoya ~ Choosing a Background for Your Images

It can be easy to shoot a beautiful photograph in a beautiful location. But what about when the location or conditions aren't ideal? We'll be talking about how to look for creative solutions when presented with less than ideal situations, how to use a client's home and objects for props and backgrounds, and how to look for light. Let's make something out of nothing!

Without a formal education in photography, Dianna Montoya is a self-taught photographer and the owner of Karelle Photography, a fine art wedding and photography business. Her background is in architecture but she made the difficult decision to leave her full-time job to pursue life as a business owner and photographer in 2007.
Dianna's style is artistic and focuses on real-life moments, striving to catch genuine moments during each wedding and portrait session. Her work is a mixture of posed as well as photojournalistic in both portraits and wedding events, focusing on weddings, newborns, high school seniors, and most recently dogs as part of Karelle's Kanines.
She is a member of PPA (Professional Photographers of America), WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers of America) where she has earned several Accolades of Excellence in the international print competition since 2008, NILMDTS (Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep), and Fearless Photographers.

Message from President

Elections were held at the last meeting and the following members volunteered to fill open Board positions: Leigh Whittington will serve as Vice President, David Meine as Workshops Coordinator, Blake Corcoran as Web Master, and Kimi Oliver as Club Photographer. We are still in need of a President and Field Trip Coordinator. Due to time constraints, Derrick Bryant and I have agreed to stay on through March before leaving these posts vacant. If you feel that you have a few months time to dedicate to the club, know that the time involved is approximately five to six hours per month: two for the monthly Board Meeting, the last Wednesday of each month; the monthly meeting; and phone calls and emails on behalf of our activities. Support from current and past Board Members is always available. If you would like more information, please contact me.

To participate in the club field trips and workshops you must be a member. Join or renew your membership - $25 Single, Family $35, Student $15

Please note we have a new policy regarding dues! Membership dues paid after the Fall Contest will now include membership for the following year!

Christine is stepping down as Vice-President. Derrick and Lisa are stepping down as Field Trip and Workshop Coordinators, respectively. Another thank you to Lisa for agreeing to stay on as an assistant to our new Workshop Coordinator, David.

We appreciate the time and effort that you have put into the club. Without volunteers like you all, the club would not run!

We do still have positions open for President and Field Trip Coordinator. If you have any interest, contact any of the board members!

We're still recovering from the holidays so there won't be any field trips for January. Check back with us next month for some great opportunities to get out there and shoot!

Composition Workshop with Todd Marshall-Closson

Date: January 14, 2012

Time: 9 AM - 1 PM

Location: South Montgomery County Library, first floor meeting room

Todd Marshall-Closson from PhotoSource will be leading a composition workshop. Todd did a great job as a judge for our Fall Photo Contest and we couldn't be happier to have him teach us all about composition.

If you've always wondered what the Rule of Thirds is or never did quite understand how to use leading lines effectively in your photos, then this workshop will be a great chance to have it all explained to you! Not only will you have the chance to get outside and shoot after the classroom instruction, but there will also be a critique session so you can get immediate feedback on the photos you took!

This workshop is coming up fast and we do need payment at the next meeting to reserve your spot.

We won't be having our mini-contest for the month of January but will pick up in February with the subject of love.

Have you been someplace interesting or just gotten some great shots? Each month a portion of the meeting will be devoted to seeing and talking about the creative experiences of our membership. Please share your shots with members by participating in members slide show. Submit your photos (limit 5) to Barry Dolton by the Friday prior to the monthly meetings.

All members are welcome to attend board meetings which are held from 6:30-8:00pm the last Wednesday of each month at Cafe Express in The Woodlands. For a complete listing and contact information of current board members please visit our website.
