MEMBER GALLERIES PROCEDURE

I have provided a high level review of the process of adding a Members Photo Gallery to the WPC Web Site.

Request –

The member should provide an E-mail request to the Web Master (Cecilia García) that he/she plans to add their Photo Gallery to the WPC Web Site. Cecilia García does the admin. Work to set up a Sub Domain for that member, as well as an FTP Account, where a User ID and Password is established. Then an E-mail would be sent to that member notifying them of the User ID and Password.

Photo Digitizing –

It is necessary that photographs be scanned or taken with a digital camera. The file size should be made as small as possible without compromising quality. The preferred file type for Web Photos is JPEG or GIF. The photo density should be in the range of 72-100 dpi. I have found that photo dimension limits of (width of 700 pixels-9.7inches, height of 425 pixels-5.9inches) works best for filling a screen without scrolling. Of course they can be made smaller as the situation may require. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 for working with digital photographs.

Web Page Construction –

Web Pages are constructed on your own personal computer, where files with a (.html) extension are executed by your Browser (in most cases Internet Explorer). There are numerable Web Site Tools available with Template guided approaches to building a Web Page. I have taken the approach of coding basic HTML from scratch, so I am not a good reference to recommend one of these tools. I have done the pages for a number of our members using this technique. It would appear that the ones that were done by the individual members used one of these tools.

FTP File Transfer Protocol –

FTP is a program that is used to Upload and/or Download your completed Web Page to the Internet. This operation entails the use of the User ID and Password that were referred to in the section above. As you might suspect there are many FTP programs available. The one I use is a freeware version that is available on cnet.com. Its name is WS_FTP LE.

Once all this is completed, the Web Page builder should let the Web Master (Cecilia García) know, so the appropriate links can be made on the WPC Web Site so everyone can enjoy the photos.
